I was born in Anderson, South Carolina. My father is a retired minister, and my mother is a retired educator. My family moved several times during my childhood. I lived in Lavonia, Georgia, Six Mile, South Carolina, and Columbia, South Carolina. In my middle school years, our family settled in the Saluda area of Lake Murray. After high school, I attended North Greenville College and earned an Associate of Arts degree in 1986. I graduated from Furman University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. I was hired in Aiken County in the fall of 1988 at Aiken Elementary. I taught first grade for eleven years and Reading Recovery for three years. I am currently a second grade teacher at J.D. Lever Elementary School in Aiken County.
I married Phillip Hare in 1995. He is a Program Manager for the Workforce and Business Development Division of Aiken Technical College. He is also a part-time music director at South Aiken Presbyterian Church. We share a love of music and both sing and play musical instruments. ( We are also both Furman graduates and preacher's kids.) Together we have two beautiful children, Bishop (8) and Marlee (4). I am also a step-mother of two more beautiful children, Emily (22) and Daniel (19).
