Course Information

A. Course Description:

The organization and administration of media programs in school buildings and districts, regional and state centers, and colleges and universities. Procedures, problems, and trends for an integrated instructional support system will be emphasized.

B. Course Credits: 3

C. Prerequisites: No prerequisite courses.

Statement of Course Goals

  1. Investigate issues related to school/site planning, purchasing, and technology integration.
  2. Develop curricular plans based on local, state, and national standards for the use of computers and other associated technology.
  3. Investigate approaches to effective staff development activities related to technology.
  4. Investigate issues related to facilities and resource management.
  5. Explore strategies for and issues related to managing the change process in organizations.
  6. Explore strategies for the selection, installation, management and maintenance of technology infrastructure.

Description of Course Assignments

In addition to the items below, there will be a series of research papers and a group project. Details on these assignments can be found on the complete syllabus that will be provided on the course Blackboard site.

A. Introductory Activities:

NOTE: Before submitting any of the activities, be sure to follow the submission guidelines.

B. Class participation: Blackboard Discussion

Discussion board topics will be active throughout the course. Participate. The discussion in this class is completely student oriented. The purpose of the discussion is to encourage interaction among the students in the class. The basic process will begin with a reading assignment. After the reading assignment is completed, each student is expected to add a thread to the discussion forum. Once all students have had the opportunity to add a thread, the students respond to the threads of at least two other students.

C . Research Papers:

A series of five to six, mini-research papers will be required during the class. The content of these papers includes topics such as, policies and regulations, characteristics of technology managers, supporting users, technology plans, technology funding, managing people, and managing change.

D. Group Project:

The group project will be the creation of a staff development program for an institution. Each group will be responsible, at designated intervals, to submit reports related to the ADDIE process instructional design.
